the classic tale of alice’s adventures in wonderland (《爱丽丝梦游仙境》) is a book many children grow up with. and this year it is celebrating its 150th birthday.

in the story, the 7-year-old alice is running after a white rabbit, but she accidentally falls down a rabbit hole. she enters a world called wonderland, and this is where the adventure (冒险) begins.

in wonderland, there seems to be no rules or logic (逻辑). alice

meets many strange and wonderful characters. a cruel (残酷的) queen says she is going to cut off someone’s head every two minutes. a cat smiles so big its lips (嘴唇) almost reach its ears. and strange things happen to alice too. her body grows and shrinks (缩小) during her time in wonderland.

alice is very annoyed because she doesn’t understand this strange place. but in fact, the story is about an innocent (天真的) youngster trying to make sense of the strange adult world, said professor will brooker of kingston university london.

when british author lewis carroll wrote the story in 1865, its special style and humor made it a classic of its time. it even created some phrases we still use today. when people say “down the rabbit hole”, they mean to make a choice where the result is unknown.

the story also lives on through different artworks. there are paintings and music videos based on the story. in summer 2016, the latest movie alice through the looking glass (《爱丽丝梦游仙境2：镜中奇遇记》), will be released in cinemas.

is living on planet mars possible?

for people who are interested in space, nothing is more exciting than the idea of life on other planets. at first, when mars showed signs of having life, everyone was excited. the idea has inspired many films and stories including the martian (《火星救援》), which shows a man struggling to survive on mars. but would it actually be possible to live there?

while the idea of living on mars is great, the reality does not look as good. mars does

not have a friendly atmosphere (大气) for humans. there is very little oxygen (氧气) there, and because of its distance from the sun, it is also very cold. the temperature on mars can be -62 c on average. this is much too cold for humans.

however, scientists say it might be possible to live there without an atmosphere. mars has a similar amount of daytime to earth, which means there’s enough

sunlight to grow plants inside safe buildings.(1) however, they would have to grow in soil from earth. mars does not have a strong enough atmosphere to stop the radiation (辐射) from space, which makes it dangerous to grow things in the soil.

also, the radiation causes problems for our health. one way we could survive the radiation and cold temperatures would be to build homes under the ground or within the rocks (岩石) on the planet. these would give humans the heat and protection the planet doesn’t have.

although it’s a long time before we would be able to live on mars, nasa is hoping to make some progress within the next 20 years.

2、Why Do We Want to Learn English?

Have you ever really asked yourself why you want to learn a new language? Let’s for the moments forget about the obvious: additional job skill, immigration, travels, studying aboard, academic necessity and so on. Of course, these reasons are reasonable and motivate us to bury our heads in thick language textbooks, and repeat a drab voice. But I believe we acquire a new language in order to effectively communicate with people not from our country and culture.

Why do we want to learn English? The first place, I think we want to understand and embrace the culture of the language. So we have a lot of lessons, which not only lessons on spoken English and listening comprehension but also fun activities, such as singing,

dancing, movies, and games. These lessons enhance our knowledge of language culture. So as to we can communicate with foreigner.

Secondly, we can better to adapt to the speedy development of the sociality. As to know, if we can’t use the computer, you are like a blind person. And you don’t know the English, you like a deaf person.

Thirdly, we learn English in order to serve ourselves better. We don’t be exhausted by the import goods, and protect ourselves from being cheated. Then we can know more courtiers’ view, when we see a film, we needn’t have any interpreter more.

Fourth, we can get high scores in your English exams if we learn English well, which will please our parents and English teacher. If you learn English well, we can get a better job and a higher salary. That means we can enjoy a better quality of life.

Also, the essence of language is a tool; English has become a king of tool of thought, with the development of the mankind society. We learn a foreign language, especially English; like that we have an open window in the wall. We can appreciate the other side to unprecedented scenery.

1. Be kind to books

What’s more, I won’t paint on books which are borrowed from libraries. I will read each book carefully and patiently instead of reading them quickly and then throwing them away. I think it is the real way to show kindness and respect to books. Books play an important role in my life. They are just like my best friends. I should be kind to my best friends since they have helped me a lot.

2. Be kind to trees

1) We should be kind to trees. As we all know, trees can clean the air, reduce the noise and protect the environment. They can also help us to store water with their roots. But now, many people cut them for money. We should stop them from doing this. Besides, we ought to plant more trees and take good care of them. I think the environment will be better if we are kind to trees.

2) We would be kind to trees because they are one part of the world. With the

development of science, more and more natural forests were cut down by people. Many animals lost their beautiful families. As we all know, three trees can take the place of fifteen air-conditioners and they can also make the air fresher, so they are good for our health. Please be kind to them in our daily such as saving some paper or other things. Human beings still have a long way to go, and we have only one place to have, it’s our green and beautiful earth, don’t let it become the dry desert.

3. Be kind to the environment

1) It’s universally acknowledged that the serious environment problem is the main

problem to solve in the 21st century. In fact, only if we start to be kind to the environment, can we have a brighter future.

Then how can we be kind to the environment? We can live a low-carbon life. In short words, it is to encourage people to change their living habits and form a natural, environmental, friendly, healthy life style.

Firstly, we should realize that everyone is responsible for the environment. Secondary, we should form good habits in our daily lives. As for me, I prefer traveling by public transportation or going to school by bike. In my eyes, it’s an easy but effective way to reduce greenhouse gases. We can have time doing physical exercise, enjoying the fresh air as well as being kind to the environment. In addition, using electricity saving lamps is another good way which I use to save the limited energy in order to benefit my future generation.

In brief, let’s live a lower-carbon life to be kind to the environment. Humble as you and I, all of us can make a big difference just by doing simple things!

2) Nowadays, our environment is getting worse and worse because of the heavy traffic and pollutions. If we don’t protect our environment, we will have no place to live and no food to eat. Then we will die. So we must be kind to our environment. I will talk with my father and tell him not to drive a car when it’s unnecessary. Later on, I will call on my friends to be volunteers to recycle some boxes, handbags or other useful things. Finally, I’ll try my best to save every drop ofclean water and plant more trees near my home.If we all do so, we will live in a better life! So be kind to the environment.
