These days almost everyone has a job. But what should we consider when we choose a job? Different people have different opinions.

Some people choose their jobs according to the salary. If a job offers one a high salary, he or she will be likely to choose this job. Taking their interests into account, others prefer jobs that they love. They may not work for a long time if they do not like their jobs at all.

As for me, I choose a job considering my career planning. I do not mind whether the salary my boss offers to me is high or not. Although my salary at present may not be so high, I believe I will be promoted one day because of my hard work and clear career planning.

6、Which Means of Transportation do You Prefer?

In terms of the transportation I prefer, I like riding a bike better.

There are several reasons behind it. First of all, it is a popular means of transportation both in big cities and in small cities. We can see a lot of people riding their bikes in the street these days. In addition, riding a bike is helpful to reduce the air pollution and to protect the environment. Last but not least, I am able to enjoy the fresh air and improve my health when I am riding a bike. All in all, riding a bike is an advisable means of transportation.

There is no denying that more and more people from every corner of the world have realized the importance of learning English.

1.How best to be a great guest?

WHETHER you have foreign friends or a foreign teacher, you might find that one day they invite you to their house. What should you expect? How should you behave? Don’t panic. Just follow these tips on etiquette, and you’ll have a perfect set of manners to bring with you on your visit, whatever country they are from.

Before you go, ask what kind of a visit this is. If you have been invited over for a low-key activity like watching television or playing a game, then you probably won’t be expected to bring anything with you. If you’ve been invited for dinner, ask if there is something you can bring to add to the meal, like a drink, some snacks or a dessert.

When you arrive, your host will usually offer you a drink. Don’t just say:“I’ll have a Coke.”Ask them what they have available, and then make your choice. This way you won’t ask for something they don’t have, which will save everyone from embarrassment.

When you’re invited to someone’s house for a meal, offer to help your hosts prepare food or set the table. If they decline your help before the meal, make sure you offer to clean up afterwards.

Keep in mind that while some people appreciate a guest’s help, others would prefer you to just relax and enjoy yourself. When the meal is ready, it’s polite to try everything on offer.

2.Keep quiet and listen up

I had just picked up my new car, a very beautiful automobile if you’re into cars. A few months later, I was involved in an accident. That new and very beautiful car was destroyed.

The accident was clearly not my fault. The other guy was so busy on his cell phone that he went right through a red light and slammed into the passenger side of my car. It was even scarier because my niece was asleep on the back seat and her father, my brother, was in the front passenger seat. He was not happy, to say the least.

The police arrived and began taking statements. I explained that I had been going at about 55km. “So you were going about 50km…” he said.

“No, I said I was doing about 55km,” I said.

“Right, so you were doing about 50km…” again he repeated.

In a slightly annoyed tone because I felt I wasn’t being heard, I said: “No! I was doing about 55km!”

“OK, if that’s the way you want it,” this time the officer simply replied.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was shooting myself in the foot. My insurance company paid me for the damages to my car. However, I

totally missed the boat on the other driver’s insurance company.

The city speed limit is 50km. I ended up getting 50 percent less than I would have from the other guy’s insurance company because I had insisted I was doing 55km.

It suddenly struck me that the traffic policeman had been trying to help me out. He hadn’t minded about the 5km; he had known something about the insurance that I had not.

I thought about what had happened again. I might have carried on insisting that I told the truth, but I could at least have said “Thank you” to him instead of acting so rudely. After all, he had been trying to help me out.

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to let other people talk while you simply shut up and listen. Never forget – to hear, you have to be able to listen.

DUTCH teenagers are the happiest children in Europe and are also happier than American teens, according to a major international survey into the health and welfare of children between the ages of 11 and 15published in February.

The Health Behavior in School-Aged Children (HBSC) survey is commissioned by the World Health Organization and carried out every

five years. A total of 200,000 children in 39 countries took the survey.

About 95 percent of Dutch children interviewed gave their lives at least a passing grade. Dutch teenagers said they liked to go to school and had lots of friends and were less involved in fighting and bullying. They had good relationships with their parents and felt healthy.

“The Netherlands has always been a very child-centered society,” said Paul Vangeert, professor of developmental psychology at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. “In particular, there is a lot of focus on young children.” In his opinion, Dutch families are open and communicate and parents and children can talk about almost anything.

“Social factors play an important role in how they look at their lives. Dutch children generally have a good relationship with their parents, families and friends,” researcher Wilma Vollenbergh told the Dutch media. “Another factor is the Netherlands’ prosperity and limited social inequality,” she added.

The HBSC report showed support from family and classmates protects young people from negative influences. Children who find it easy to communicate with their parents and peers often feel healthier.
